Just when the anti-gun crowd had started to hope that Americans wouldn’t buy any more guns, Joe Biden and his cadre in Washington, D.C. started threatening to pass a whole bunch of new gun control and sent gun sales skyrocketing all over again.
The NSSF has released their numbers for the month of March, reporting that over 2 million Americans bought a gun last month that went through the NICS system.
According to their press release:
The March 2021 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 2,044,136 is a decrease of 14.0 percent compared to the March 2020 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 2,375,525.
For comparison, the unadjusted March 2021 FBI NICS figure 4,645,609 reflects a 25.2 percent increase from the unadjusted FBI NICS figure of 3,709,562 in March 2020.
The first quarter 2021 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 5,483,342 reflects an increase of 13.3 percent over the 4,841,126 figure for first quarter 2020, making this the highest first-quarter on record.
Translation, Please?
Basically, the NICS system ran 4.6 million background checks last month compared to 3.7 million in March of 2020.
The NSSF then removes some of those from their report — specifically the checks that were run for permit renewals and things like that — in an attempt to remove the NICS checks that don’t necessarily represent a gun purchase.
Once those background checks are weeded out, the number for March was 2,044,136, a number that was slightly lower than March of 2020, where 2,375,525 NICS checks were run for a new gun purchase.
Of course, that number, 2,044, 136, doesn’t count any gun owner who purchased a gun who already had a concealed carry permit. It also doesn’t account for private sales between two individuals, or for gun owners who might have bought multiple guns in a single trip to the gun store.
Thanks, Bumbling Joe!
The NSSF’s Mark Oliva made some commentary in the press release, saying:
March 2021’s figures were the second strongest for the month on record, surpassed only by March 2020, when 2.3 million background checks for a firearm sale were conducted.
It is clear that firearm sales in March were driven by gun control calls from politicians to ban entire classes of firearms and enact onerous gun laws. Americans continue to vote with their wallets when it comes to lawful firearm ownership. Over 2 million chose to exercise their right to keep and bear arms last month.
As more and more Americans turn off the Fake News, establishment media and see what the left is openly doing to our beautiful America, we expect this trend to continue!
