The United States House of Representatives, led by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, is set to vote on two major gun control bills today. We’ve been updating you about H.R. 8, the universal background checks bill that would make a national gun owners registry of every single gun owner in the country that we refiled by Democrat Mike Thompson of California. The other bill is H.R. 1446, a mandatory ten-day waiting period bill introduced by House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D, S.C.).
H.R. 8 would make it illegal to sell a hunting shotgun to a lifelong friend without first going to a licensed firearms dealer to run a NICS background check on him first via the FBI. But worse. this bill, by it’s very nature, would create a database of the names, addresses, and guns of every single gun owner in America.
This legislation is essential to any future gun control plans that Joe Biden and his radical cadre of friends have in mind for America. After all, how can they enforce any new gun control or confiscate any guns if they don’t know who has them?
The second bill, H.R. 1446, extends the time period for a NICS background check from 3 days to 10 days. In addition, the bill allows for an extension if reviewers weren’t “satisfied” after having had ten days to find a good reason not to pass teh gun owner.
The current law says that the FBI has three days, and if the check takes longer than that, the gun buyer should be automatically passed through the NICS system.
Meanwhile, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) who co-sponsored the legislation with Clyburn, had no problem stating on his website that the initial ten-business-day review can be followed by a ten-day “escalated review” in some cases.
Of course, some states already have these two laws on the books. In California, where the state has already passed their own universal background checks and a ten-day waiting period on gun purchases, South Los Angeles witnessed a 742 percent rise in shooting victims during the first 16 days of 2021.
Sounds like something we need nationwide, right?
Biden and Co Are Pushing Hard
The radical crowd in D.C. has been pushing for gun control ever since Biden was installed in the White House. Just over a month ago, Joe Biden urged Congress to pass sweeping gun control. The same day, Nancy Pelosi specifically mentioned H.R. 8 as a bill that she wanted Congress to pass!
Since that time, we’ve reported the resurrection of H.R. 8 as a holdover from the 2019/2020 session — where it had passed the House but stalled out in the Repbulican controlled Senate. Due to being a holdover bill, it carried forward all of the endorsements of all the major anti-gun organizations.
In less than three days of its filing on March 1st, the bill had 131 cosponsors. As of this morning, it has 210 cosponsors, including three Republicans.
