Fort Worth, TX–A 68-year-old woman is alive and recovering at home in Denton, TX after a run in with two thugs at the Hulen Mall in Fort Worth.
On Tuesday, January 28th, the woman was walking out to her car from the Macy’s in the mall. She said that she was distracted by being on her phone and not paying attention to what was going on around her.
Meanwhile, mall footage shows two young thugs wandering the area outside the mall. Fort Worth police officer Buddy Calzada said that it looked like the two men were ‘casing’ the parking lot.
They were looking for an easy score, and this distracted older lady was the perfect target.
The woman reported what happened: “As my car unlocked (you know the Miracle of keyless entry) one man rushed me. A gun, mace or anything else would have been no use to me because I was caught off guard. I did though began to scream. This was the right thing to do.”
At this point, the second thug opened the passenger door and drug the woman into her car from the other side.
While she battled the two men in her car, one of them punched her in the face. They pushed her out on the ground and tried to drive away in her car. Unfortunately for them, they weren’t bright enough to realize that the electronic key was in the woman’s pocket.
The woman screamed her head off through the entire ordeal. That might have been her saving grace, as it drew the attention of a man nearby who was carrying a gun that day.
Officer Calzada was short on details about this woman’s rescuer, and said only, “There was a witness close by that actually drew a weapon. Those two suspects dropped the purse and belongings and took off running.”
The woman was shaken up, but paramedics treated her at the scene and she was able to go home.
Head on Swivel and Gun On Your Side
While it’s important to remind people to be aware of their surroundings, the police acted like if she had been paying attention, she could have called 911 faster. But we all know this situation was over in less than 30 seconds. The only reason this situation ended as well as it did was the Good Samaritan with the gun put those two thugs on the run before they could harm to the woman any more.
Police have released mall surveillance video in hopes of identifying the suspects. They were described as black men in their mid-20’s. The first was approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. He was wearing a black hoodie with black pants and shoes. The other suspect was 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs 120 pounds and was wearing gray sweat pants.
Self-Defense Is The Best Defense
It’s worth noting that this mall is a mere 11 miles, or 15 minute drive from the church in White Settlement, TX where hero Jack Wilson took out a mass shooter. Not only is this Texas, but folks in this area are already on high alert. You’d have to be an idiot to try a stunt like this in that area right now. Any Texan who ever had their License to Carry is carrying these days. People are done thinking that the world is relatively safe. They’re done thinking that the cops will make it on time, too.
