JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Not even 24 hours after a man was shot and killed in a home invasion gone wrong in the Mixon Town neighborhood of Jacksonville, three men have been arrested and charged.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s office hasn’t released the name of the man who was killed by the violent thugs but has given a description of what happened.
Police say that Joshua Alan Straughn, 23, Sean Ashraf Youseff, 30, and George Washington Ford, 37, chose the house at random to commit robbery for money and drugs.
There were multiple witnesses in the house when the three men broke in and shot the unnamed homeowner and another person in the course of their robbery.
The homeowner died on the scene; the other shooting victim is still in the hospital but is expected to recover.
Officers detained the three suspects while they were trying to leave the scene of the crime in a car.
They weren’t even a block down the road.
The three thugs are facing charges of home invasion and murder, while Youseff is also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance, and failure to appear, Ford was also charged with aggravated battery.
This story is a good example of the great job police can do at rounding up criminals after they’ve committed a crime.
They had these guys in for questioning within half an hour of the shooting, and they were arrested and charged within 24 hours.
But that was still too late.
A ten- or fifteen-minute response time to the scene of the crime is almost never fast enough to prevent the crime in the first place.
It’s good that the police could arrest these thugs so fast, but it won’t bring the dead homeowner back to life for his family’s sake.
Carry every day, and take your personal self defense seriously. You’re the only one who will be certain to be armed and ready if your life is in danger.
