The public’s help is being sought to identify two suspects — considered armed and dangerous — who robbed the Flying J Travel Plaza Saturday morning and shot a customer.
On Sept. 22 around 3 a.m., two armed black males entered the Flying J Travel Plaza off of Exit 160 on I-85 in Carnesville, a press release from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said.
One armed suspect fired two rounds inside the business. A customer was shot at close range in the upper chest.
The suspects demanded and took currency from the store registers and then fled on foot.
The on-duty store clerks were not injured in the incident.
Witnesses reported seeing a tan or gray full-sized SUV — a 2007 model or newer Tahoe or Suburban — leaving the parking lot across the street. The suspects’ vehicle entered I-85 on the south bound entrance ramp.
The injured customer, a commercial truck driver from Florida, was treated by Franklin County Emergency Medical Services for life-threatening injuries.
The victim was transported to an Athens hospital and is currently in stable condition.
