(Allapattah, Florida) – While washing his hands in the back of his Florida barbershop, 45-year-old Serban Beriguete was attacked by a customer and stabbed in the stomach.
Fearing for his safety, Beriguete drew a concealed handgun and shot the suspect in self-defense.
As first reported by the NBC affiliate, authorities are confirming tonight that both the victim and suspect were taken to the hospital, where the unidentified suspect died of his injuries.
Beriguete’s family said he bought the handgun for self-defense, and that he had no choice but to use it.
According to his daughter Jennefer:
“My dad defended himself by shooting him. He didn’t really make any sort of communication with anyone he just went straight to the back and attacked my dad.”
The barbershop, located at 2060 NW. 22nd Ave., was shut down for the rest of the day as investigators conducted their investigation.
The name of the suspect has not been released, pending notification of the family, and they have not yet released the motivation for the attack.
