(Belleville, New Jersey) – Investigators in Essex County, New Jersey, will not identify the name of the suspect killed during a home invasion late Tuesday night in Belleville.
But they are confirming that a homeowner was assaulted inside his residence late in the evening.
The homeowner (whose identity is also being withheld) after being shot by the suspect, was able to turn the tables on his attacker and shoot him in self-defense.

“However, the resident then fatally shot the would-be burglar. After being shot, the unidentified burglar fled and collapsed in Nutley,” acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Belleville Police Chief Mark Minichini said in a joint statement Wednesday according to NJ.com.
Police are saying that this was an isolated incident, and that the public has no need for concern.
While the investigation is ongoing, it is too soon to tell if the homeowner will face any charges, as New Jersey is home to some of the worst gun laws in America.
