(Vancouver, WA) – When 61-year-old Stephen Cox woke up to the sounds of a prowler in his fenced in backyard in the 14500 block of North E. 49th Cir. sometime around 5:15 in the morning last week, the first thing he did was arm himself.
Going outside, Cox confronted 30-year-old Ryan Anderson. That’s when police say Anderson attacked Cox, and the two had a physical altercation.
Cox eventually fired one round at Anderson, who was transported to a hospital and died from his injuries.
Neighbors were surprised that the incidence occurred in their community, but expressed support for Cox.
Robert Owens said, “I’m very pro-gun. I’m prior Army myself, so we have lots of training on self-defense, and I will not let any of my family or my friends or my neighbors go down without a fight.”
Police are still investigating the situation, and will not say whether or not Cox will be facing charges.
