(Evansville, IN) – When this 76-yr-old woman was jarred from her sleep by the sound of someone kicking at her door, she immediately reached for her handgun.
And when she saw a half-dressed man trying to force entry, she warned him she was armed and ready, and, when that didn’t deter him, she fired a warning shot to make sure the suspect got the message.
The woman acted well within the law according to Sgt. Jason Cullum, who said, “She’s in her upper 70s, and she has every right to defend herself. That’s her castle and in Indiana, the castle doctrine is in effect.”
The suspect fled on foot and will likely not be returning to this woman’s home anytime soon.
